PREFACE The Training Manual To Support Building Environmental Management System for the Industrial Facility has been prepared as a part of Finnish-Lithuanian projects of cooperation for the creation of an Environmental Management Systems for the Lithuanian companies. The projects - coordinated by the Baltic Institute of Finland - were implemented between 1999 and 2004. The Finnish Ministry of the Environment was the main financier of the project. The Finnish and Lithuanian experts in the project - the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology at the Tampere University of Technology, the Institute of Environmental Engineering at the Kaunas University of Technology (Apini) and E-Qual Ltd - have been responsible for the preparation of the training manual. The Baltic Institute of Finland and the project partners aim at utilizing the training manual in further technical assistance projects in the Baltic Sea Region in order to support companies' own efforts to increase environmental performance by adopting environmental management system as part of their every day practices.
